There were a few things at this weekends Big Screen event held in the O2 Arena by Empire that got an extraordinarily loud reaction from the audience. Roland Emmerich for example got a huge applause after his interview, The Attack the Block Panel also garnered a large response.
Although I did not have my decibel meter with me that day, I can quite confidently say that i believe the loudest reaction from a crowd all weekend was for The Muppets.
Via live streaming, Director James Bobin and, everyone’s favourite frog, Kermit joined an audience at the O2’ Indigo Theatre for an interview and a first look at the movie.
After a brief misunderstanding from Kermit.
“Anything for the Empire, We’re all big fans of Her Majesty”
He moved on to explain some of the behind the scenes magic that goes into making a movie as he tells the audience that they have to do all their own stunts.
We have to because it’s hard to find spindly green stuntmen
James Bobin directed and co-created Flight of the Conchords which is why, according to Kermit, he landed the position as director on the Muppets.
We thought after Flight of the Conchords that James was probably strange enough to work with us
Fozzi bear interrupted the interview to share a joke with the audience which received undeserved laughter and applause.
Why did the chicken cross the internet? To get to the other site
“Not to bludgeon the pun, but sometimes he’s kind of unbearable.”
Another surprise guest before the end of the interview was Miss Piggy who makes the same mistake as Kermit did at the start only she was wearing a tiara and jewellery as she expects to meet the Queen and become a Dame.
Bobin would not reveal any details of cameos for the movie but did state.
“It’s in the tens, Pretty much everyone we asked said ‘yes’ but you’ll have to wait and see…”
And going by IMDB’s page for the film we can see a number of stars listed including Mila Kunis, Jack Black, Neil Patrick Harris, Katy Perry, Ricky Gervais and many more.
Starring Jason Segel and Amy Adams, The clip we got to see showed both Segel and Adams with aspiring muppet ‘Walter’ on their quest to find Kermit to inform him of an evil oil barrons plan to tear down their theatre to drill for oil at which point Kermit decides the only way to save the theatre is to put on a show. Walter, a new muppet being introduced in the movie, gets electrocuted trying to break into Kermits house and the clip ends on a song.
