Little Fockers review
While out on a small date with my wife, we decided that we wanted to see Little Fockers for a few reasons. First, I’m a big fan of anything that Robert DeNiro does. And secondly, because the other two movies were rather good in the series, so we figured this one would be.
The first thing that really stood out to me is that this isn’t a movie about the kids. Sure, there are kids and yes, because there are kids, there is going to be conflict between Jack and Greg. But, let’s get it out of our minds immediately when thinking that this movie is about the kids. It’s just not.
But, that’s not a problem to me.
The basic premise of the movie is that Jack is getting old. And he realizes that, at some point, he is going to die. Considering Pam’s older sister’s husband cheater on her, Jack is concerned about his family’s legacy being passed down. And so, he calls Greg to be…The Godfocker.
What ensues is a huge ordeal about whether Greg is honestly good for Pam. “Uh, Jack,” I say, “they’re already married. Get over yourself.”
Throw in Jessica Alba’s character and we get a little bit of her weird side. She plays a crazy drug company representative who has a thing for Greg. And, considering they’re tag teaming this erectile dysfunction drug, things get pretty weird between them. She tries to rape him.
What added a nice dynamic to the story was how Greg’s parents were also fighting. His father went off to Spain; she’s got her own new TV show. And, things are unusually rough there as well. But, it’s entertaining.
In the end, though, there is obviously a happy ending.
Would I go see it again, though, is the big question?
Not in theaters. It was a cute movie and it did have it moments of great humor, but all in all, I probably wouldn’t go see it a second time. There are other movies—such as Inception—that I would and have seen multiple times in theaters. But, this movie just doesn’t provide that same value.
As a whole, I’d give the movie an 8/10, but that’s mostly because I love the cast and I did think it was funny. But, for a repeat adventure, I’ll wait for it to appear in my local Red Box or on Netflix.
