The Mechanic review

What do you get when you mix the leading action star of the past few years with an actor that really can play a freaking maniac really well?

The Mechanic.

Starting Jason Statham as Arthur Bishop, an assassin who specializes in killing people without making it appear as if the person was assassinated, the movie opens with a bang. Right from the beginning, we see just how elite this assassin is with the killing of a drug cartel leader without anyone knowing. And his way of escaping is…phenomenal.

However, when Arthur is tasked to kill his old mentor, Harry, played by Donald Sutherland, he then goes on a quest to kill the truth culprits who manipulated him into killing his mentor.

To join on the quest is Harry's son, Steve, played by Ben Foster. Bishop trains Steve to be an assassin and sends him to take care of his own job. Despite the fact it gets messy, he gets the job done and together, they work on killing the man responsible for Steve's father's death.

If you're looking for a great movie with great acting, you're looking for another movie. However, if you're looking for an amazing movie that is just full of explosions, killing, stabbing, shooting and everything else, this is exactly the movie you want to see.

Jason Statham gets a bad reputation for being a crappy actor, but he did a pretty good job in this movie. Having killed his closest friend, Harry, he then has to go about avenging that same death with Harry's son. This requires a more emotional role for Statham that I can't say I've personally seen him do before. It's a nice change.

The end, though, is explosive. I won't reveal what happens, but I will say that it will have you on the edge of your seat in amazement. Just remember…He is a professional assassin who has gotten used to have no one close to him. That makes the ending that much better.

I give this movie a 9/10. It gets a 5/10 for its story and maybe a 5.5/10 for its acting, but the overall experience of the movie gives it a 9/10. It's just a fun movie that for any guy looking for another testosterone movie, you definitely want to catch it.

While I wouldn't suggest taking your girlfriends or wives—maybe you can, there were some women in the theater—this is definitely a movie to see with your friends. And for any girls who just love a good action flick, you definitely want to see this movie.

The Mechanic opened on January 28th and has already generated over $15 million in revenue.
